Having a rather elusive problem with Internet Explorer. User upgraded to 6.0 with all the patches, fixes on a W98 SE Gateway box. IE randomly either locks the PC (pull the plug) or shuts the PC down. Uninstalled 6.0 and went back to 5.5. Tried the repair option in IE5.5. Same deal. Have used sfc, all is well, NSW shows nothing noteable, scanned for viruses, all clean, no spyware/adware, tried disabling the Norton AV, changing the screen resolution from 32 down to 16 mil colors. Device drivers are all happy….. inet access is thorough a LAN on T1. Only noteable item is a lousy Compaq IJ 300 printer that also locks (but does not shutdown)the PC. Uninstalled it, got new drivers from Compaq (uh-huh, Sep 99 is the new one on their site) but IE still freezes or shuts it all down. Okey dokey then, any suggestions?
