IE Problem

By helenlein ·
I just got this problem. I double-click IE, the application opens for a nanosecond, and then immediately closes. I have run my anti-virus software, and it does not report viruses.

Any suggestions?
Helen

I have had this happen as a result of a spyware. Try running an anti-spyware program such as Microsoft AntiSpyware or Spybot Search and Destroy. They are both available for free download. There are also some free utilities out there as well like Hijack This. These work well but be very careful as they will sometimes list a legitimate program as a threat. They will also modify the registry. Make sure you backup before attempting any repair.

Also, if you are running Windows XP, try running the System Restore and roll it back to the last day that it worked correctly. This has worked well for me in the past.

Scanning for spyware is a great suggestion. If your scans come up with anything, be sure to rescan . If you come up with anything on the second scan, or the first scan does not complete successfully, reboot into Safe Mode and rescan. And be sure NOT to quarantine anything. Delete; otherwise, the next time you do a System Restore, it might bring back the old problem.

If you are still having trouble with IE after the above, search for "repair Winsock" and download the program to repair yours (get the correct version, as the 2000/XP version is different from the 98/ME version).

When things are running normally again, scan for viruses and spyware weekly for best protection.

try this spyware remover http://www.pestpatrol.com/ and then run a online AV like http://www.bitdefender.com also after all these are done, reboot, check your running processes (task manager) and CPU utilization.
Re run both tools and you should be good to go....

Hi.
you can download for free adware from www.lavasoftusa.com its one of the best i have use.

a work arround for your problem if you are ruinning windows 2000 or XP. is going to the control panel in add or remove prog. go to add remove windows commponents and remove the selected box in the internet explorer field. dont worry you are not really removing it. the icon in your desktop will disapear but just look for IEXPLORE.EXE if you dont see any internet explorer icon any were.

in the worst case you have to reinstall the IE its a simple process so dont worry.
