Hi, I have a friend with this problem & have been trying to figure it out. Here is what I have done.
IE 5.0 starts out with finding site, goes about a ? of the way and then goes
to auto search, then goes back to finding site, then she gets “page
cannot be displayed”. I have checked all of the settings in DUN, Network,
and Internet options. I renamed the (5) .386 files, vip.386, vnbt.386,
vtcp.386, vtdi.386, and vtcp.386. removed everything from the network and
then put in CFMN, DUA, and TCP/IP. Reboot. Then I extracted winsock.dll and
wsock32.dll. Tried to browse using IP address, same thing. Pinged her and
there was no packet loss. She installed IE5.5, same thing. Took the check
out of automatically detect settings. Put in the primary and secondary DNS.
Same thing.
