IE5 won't hold proxy settings

By rroberts ·
I have 5 identical (or so says Dell) PC's with W98b and IE5. Two of the 5 will not hold a proxy server address. When I shut down IE and start it back up the "Use Proxy Server box is unchecked. It is my understanding that by checking this box it should hold that setting. Any ideas?

I have had this happen many time's , my only solution to it was to remove explorer off the computer through ( control panel - add/remove programs ) and reload program , and in some instances completely reload operating system . out of 15 systems I setup a month, garanteed , atleast 3 will play up at this point .sometimes what the software is setup to do , is just ignored by the computer all together .it dose happen .

It is true that this can just happen but reinstalling explorer may not be the solution. Try having your web services dept create a configuration script that is automatically loaded in the internet options - connections - LAN settings area. Anothersolution is to move to IE 5.5 - a colleague notified me today that IE 5.5 seemed to be more secure about holding proxy information.
