IE6 Upgrade corrupts W2K Explorer

By john ·
I recently upgraded from IE 5.5 to IE6 on a Windows 2000 Pro machine. After upgrading, the Windows Explorer left pane (the one with the drives listed in it) is solid gray, and folder options do not take effect after changing them. Also, the Add/Remove Software wizard no longer comes up when clicking it in Control Panel, and there is no longer a right click menu for the task bar. The uninstall program in the IE6 folder does not do anything either. I cannot locate anything about this on MS Knowledge Base, yet I know of at least 1 other instance of this happening and the quick solution of course was to reload Windows 2K. Is there a fix for this without reloading Windows?
