Iexplore crashes with GPF in User.exe

By paul681 ·
I have IE55 and have it on a scedule to open every hour for a min and close. This is to open my companies dial up conection before our email is retrived.
Almost every time it closes i get a GPF in user.EXE and IE crashes. Thisd is the only time itdoes it. I can open and close it manually all day and never generate that error.
After IE crashes it closes out then I open it again and its ok.
Anyone have any idea what is causing this.
I ran Dr Watson and it comes up with this when i get the error:

Windows User-interface core component used an uninitialized variable, attempted to access memory or a DLL that has been freed, or encountered some other nonspecific error.

Module Name: user.exe
Description: Windows User-interface corecomponent
Version: 4.10.2227
Product: Microsoft(R) Windows(R) Operating System
Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation

Application Name: Iexplore.exe
Description: Internet Explorer
Version: 5.50.4134.600
Product: Microsoft(R) Windows (R) 2000 Operating System
Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation

Iexplore crashes with GPF in User.exe

by Paul D. Masley In reply to Iexplore crashes with GPF ...

Apparently when you updated to 5.5, iexplore.exe did not update. The correct version number is 5.51.4807.2300. Also, a minute is not enough time for iexplore to stabilize, before you shut it down. Result, memory or dll error.

Actually, you can set the email to dialup on its own. Go to tools, options, general, and check the box to "check every 60 minutes" and to "go online even when working offline."

I didnt upgrade to 5.5. It came on my computer and I have recently upgraded it to sr1 5.50.4522.1800
I have it open for 5 min now and I still get the error.

We use a email program called popmagic to get our mail and bring it in to our GroupWise 5.5 server. The 2nd part of your answer dosn't apply to our enviroment.

It is my understanding that popmagic and IE5.5 conflicts with each other. But you should not have to open explorer in order to recieve the mail. Popmagic should be able to do the dialup and shutdown on its own.
