I actually changed what?!?

by tpgames In reply to If laughter is good for t ...

I decided to change the images for a game I had created. No problem. All I had to do was upload the new ones and change the appropriate code. Well, I played the game and still had the old images. I refreshed the screen several times. I then loaded the page outside of frames and still same old images. I checked the coding and didn't see anything wrong there. Finally, in desperation I checked the folder I had uploaded the images too. Yep, the new ones were there. My 3 year old nephew looked at my screen and commented "pictures?", then started reading the letters "jpg" and "gif". I looked at the code and realized that all images in the code had read .gif instead of the .jpg that I needed.

Another error: I uploaded all the pictures, hardcoded everything correctly, and wrote a nice little blurbage about what was new. 3 days later, I decided to unwind and play the new games I put up. Couldn't find the games anywheres. I tried every page on my site and did not find a link anywheres. I had forgotten to put a link to the new stuff on the Games page.

Another time, I made some errors in a memory game - had the name of some of the images wrong in the code and didn't know it. My nephew found the errors for me - all 5 of them. He was playing the game and informed me 'pictures not there'. Bet you didn't know that my editor was a half-pint 3 yr. old.
It takes an id10t to be a real webhost...

by tpgames In reply to If laughter is good for t ...

Hey, how about custom smilies? Free webhost offers you custom smilies? Yes, these are the same custom smilies that every phpBB host offers and nothing new. But...they are custom? How can they be custom you say? Well, if we call them custom then they are custom. Afterall, someone had to make them, right?

Yeah, someone did make them. Custom designed them themselves ages ago. And you are going to offer me these same custom smilies? How about the truth in advertising?

Hey, they were custom made.

Yeah...way back in the 2nd year of emoticon development and most of those smilies are from the 1st year of emoticon development. No Thanks!

So I found a webhost that actually allows you to make your own custom smilies and put them on your forum. Sweet. So, whats the catch? MySQL database errors. An 'inherent error' that no one else seems to have but this particular host.
Oh well, at least I have my own custom smilies. Can't use them half the time because the forum is down. But, at least I got them. I can go into the Admin folder and stare at them. I can feel my mouth drooling right now as we speak. Love how that emoticon waves a sign up and down saying "Feindflug Rocks". Enemy flight Rocks? Yeah, MySQL DOES rock! It rocks so hard that we keep getting 'inherent database' errors. Those flying forums must be the problem. After all, if no one used the forums, then we wouldn't have a Enemy flight problem. GRIN

I decided to try another forum host. That host is so new that they don't even have a way for you to contact them. Oops. Account can't be deleted by self either. Oh well, at least everything is on new servers. I did finally find their secret forum which gave me this bit of information. I decided not to join after reading that a forum went down permanently after 3 months of no activity. I decided to just post a note in my forum that it could be deleted as I did not want it. Afterall, why take precious time to join something that you will not use after you making one request for forum to be deleted? Another forum site boasted of their highly customizable free forums with more features than anyone else. I took a look, and found that like all the other phpBB forums, I still could not have my own smilies. So...I joined their forum and requested my forum to be deleted. I found that they had less options than some of the other forums as well. Complete access to html and css code. Not really. If I can't hardcode it, than I don't have free access to it. But we offer nifty forms for your convenience. Yeah right, and my forum will look like all the other when I am done, just with different colors for the same boxes. Whoopie! I get teal and you don't! You get boring old light blue. Whatever...

After no luck, I decided to do another google search. It is suprising what you get when you ask for customizable smilies, in quotes, of course. Exactly 28 sites listed. None of them is my precious golden Feindflug winner which I am still using for 2 forums. I think I will go give these other sites a go and see what I find. Who knows? Maybe I will find a winner yet...one without Feindflug lurking in the MySQL databases. Then again, maybe not. Maybe I will only find all the script databases that allow you to make a custom smilie. Maybe google will be true to word and IGNORE that 'free forum hosting' bit in the search box. Yep...it did just that. All 28 listing were about Scripts. None of them were about Free Forum Hosting. Guess I will stay with Feindflug Hosting. At least MySQL will probably get an update...a new bomb to destroy the Feindflug's. Untill then, should I twiddle my thumbs or try to learn MySQL? Naw...to much to do. Have to get a fan site up and running. No time for either. Beside, I might find myself twiddling thumbs for a very long time...

p.s. Yes I do know that Feindflug is a name of a German Industrial Band. Feindflug literally means Enemy Flight. I see the band as promoting a 'lest we forget' the errors of WWII, we will be bound to repeat them. I shall not discuss this here though. You'll have to find me elsewhere if you wish to debate the integrity of Feindflug. Sorry.

Why does my setting overrule browser settings but not FONT color?

by tpgames In reply to If laughter is good for t ...

NOTE: Read this laughingly. This is a sore spot with me, but not an angry rant. I am actually laughing as I write this. 'Bl...dy H...l' makes me laugh.

Why the bl...dy h...l does my computer window settings over rule my Firefox browser settings on every single aspect except the bl..dy Font color! As if I can read black on black! So, try some other dark color. Why? Can't read black on any dark color. Can't read blue on most colors either. Then there is the text-align: center; in CSS. What does that mean? I will align your bl..dy text anyway I feel like it and to h..l with your bl..dy align center CSS coding! Okay, that last one HAS to be MY error. Why? There just has to be some tiny aspect of code I am missing.

>tr> for example, I could not find. I knew what I was looking
for. I just couldn't See it. Sister found it. Now to find why
programming was my choice in careers. I guess Headbanging I just
couldn't get enough of at the Metal concerts, so I thought I would try
getting a career in headbanging as well. LOL

IMG.centering {
display: block;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto; }

<img class="centering" width="800" height="20" alt=''' src="http://www.tpgames.com/fo4h/images/titlebanner1.jpg">

Okay, centering might be a reserved word. Center is. Didn't think centering was. But, about that text-align tag...
P5 {
background-color: #ffffff;
background-image: url(/tpgames/images/TPMarbleGrey.jpg);
background-repeat: repeat;
background-position: center center;
margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, sans-serif;
font-size: 14px;
line-height: 20px;
text-align: center;
color: #000000;
}

<p5>
The Post goes here. With a lot of headbanging content.

And, it does not center when you look at the page. Why? Apparently center isn't apart of its vocabulary.
</p5>

So, what am I missing here? The head banging, apparently. Haven't done enough of it to earn my paycheck yet. And, I work for myself. I've got to do something about that boss of mine. Must make a note to self: Fire boss. Oops. No can do. I'd be firing myself. Enough headbanging for one day. I am so out of here.
XMB forum hosting and MySQL

by tpgames In reply to If laughter is good for t ...

Kicked the Feindflug in the behind, and put the bleeping forum on my own website. Why? I do enough headbanging thank you very much. Besides, how is anyone going to join a forum if the forum is down 99.9% of the time? What happened to 99.9% UP time? And they want me to pay for it? No thanks! T35 hosting is MUCH better. And, no extra charge for forums.

Signed,
Headbanging-R-Us NOT!

Okay, Laugh already! Found: 1 error, no make that 3 errors

by tpgames In reply to If laughter is good for t ...

Let's put an image that's 800 px width, and one that is 600 px width, and try to center images in a 500 px box.

should be....

Or, in other words, I need to stop trying to fit a live Giraffe into a Shoe Box.
Now, if I could get text to center and validate.
Corel VS. Microsoft: Who will win the Idiocy Award?

by tpgames In reply to If laughter is good for t ...

Okay, so Corel has major issues in winning the battle of the
Idiocy against Microsoft. It can't possibly catch up with
Microsoft. However, it IS trying very, very hard! How so
you ask? Feast your eyes on the following:

Paint Shop Pro 10 bug fixes:
Saving 24-bit files to EPS/IFF/PCT/XWD formats no
longer gives an incorrect message that the bit depth
needs to be changed to 24-bit. Like DOH!

And their infamous CD bug fix. Why would they be
messing with my CD drive in the first place???
If you eject a CD while the Browser palette is
generating thumbnails, Paint Shop Pro no longer
becomes unstable.

Then in the Massive Download department:
10.01 = 9 mb
10.02 = 20 mb
10.03 = 28 mb
For a total of 57 mb!!! Even this does not
beat the massive size it took to fix Paint Shop
Pro 9 - which, by the way, I did NOT buy. I wisely
decided NOT to upgrade as I was not sure that it
would work as well as #8.

9.01 = 35 mb
9 service pack 1 = 12.5 mb
9 service pack 2 = 39 mb
For a total of 86.5 mb! They really do try to take
up as much space on your harddrive as possible
by being bloody idiots!
I was NOT taken in, thank you very much. GRIN I
did get paint shop pro 8, but because of how I use
it, I did not find their bugs.
But, I did upgrade to 8.01, in that I downloaded the
\bug fix. I have not installed it yet because I was
wondering what NEW bugs it might have. It turns
out that I already upgraded to 8.01.

Here's the very limited, incomplete list of bug fixes
it had, as IF you'd be interested.
Description
This patch has benefits that improve the speed
and performance of Paint Shop Pro 8. Some of
the enhancements include:
Fixed issues that caused the JPEG Optimizer
to lock up in certain circumstances.
Fixed issues that caused colour management
to work incorrectly.

Fixed an issue that caused images to print
at an incorrect size if they were created
with a pixels/cm setting.
UPDATE: Fine, that is fixed. However,
I still have issues with % as size. It doesn't
always resize properly. IF I remember correctly.

UK

by tpgames In reply to If laughter is good for t ...

A Massive Quote!!!

UK spammer gets two months in bedroom
Colin Barker
ZDNet UK

A UK teenager pleaded guilty on Wednesday
to breaking the Computer Misuse Act by
crashing the email server of his former employer.
David Lennon, 18, was then sentenced to a
two-month curfew by a judge in the Wimbledon Magistrates court. Lennon had originally been cleared of the charges in November 2005, after another judge ruled that it wasn't an offence to overwhelm an email server with millions of messages. This ruling was later challenged by the Crown Prosecution Service. In May 2006, the case was sent back to the Magistrates Court.
On Wednesday morning, the judge ruled that Lennon should be subject to a curfew, which means he must stay at home between the
hours of 12.30am and 7am on weekdays, and between 12.30am and 10am on weekends. If he breaks this curfew, he risks a more serious
sentence. The curfew has been timed so as not to interfere with Lennon's work at a local cinema. The judge said it was a "happy
coincidence" that it will end the day before Lennon starts college in September.

END of QUOTE

Now, I ask you, how in the world can blasting someones server with useless email purposefully be not a big deal? How is 2 months of sleep going to stop him from doing this again? Maybe, he'll just bypass college all together and get a job with the Spam-R-Us Corporation. I'm sure there are countless M. Bqute@bsRus companies just waiting in line to get him on the payroll.

Then, there is the 'more serious sentence' that he might get IF he breaks curfew. And what? Decided not to sleep that night? With such a meaningless curfew to begin with, what is going to make him care enough to not break curfew? I mean, get real. He was on the internet for god's sake! He was not at some bloody Bark Pub doing his spam. He was Home doing his email spam! Hey, I got a wonderful idea! Let's sentence all criminals to the place of the crime so that we can properly keep them on probation and from doing the crime again. After all, there is no such thing as temptation. And people ask me, Why, if I really love it in England so much, why don't I move there? It's because the people, the looks of the land, the shops, gardens, etc. I love. Their bloody Government and Court System commits barking so much, that I could never serious consider moving there. It would take blind love to get me there. I guess I would just rather put up with US of Censored A. Yes, there are things about the USA I loathe. But, I was born and raised here. I am use to those things. The UK just makes no sense at all. Their reasoning lacks reason all to many times. I will admit though, one thing that might get me to live in the UK, besides PVC, is the humor. Their newspapers get so much humor from the government that if my health ever ails me to where I need humor to get my life back, I would be in the UK in a flash!

Using Scrapbook Warning....

by tpgames In reply to If laughter is good for t ...

Do NOT use Firefox's Scrapbook extension within cPanel. I lost all of my files when I did that. I was trying to get a back up copy for my desktop. It doesn't work that way. It replaced the files with .somethingMail. And .cPanel. Scrapbook I believe, has a security issue to go along with its bug.

Headbanging 101 - a Philosophical study

by tpgames In reply to If laughter is good for t ...

The following is a philosophical headbanging, rather than a humorous one.

Being on disability for not being able to get along with Supervisors because of Bipolarus Severus, it gets pretty interesting talking with my Brother, we shall call K.

K believes that "if one does not work, then neither shall one eat."
I see it as "if I work, I am too tired to eat."

Work is defined, by K, as actively pursuing getting off of disability so that one can work to make ends meet instead of getting goverment handouts, because your reality is "You can do it".
Work is defined, by Me, as actively pursuing, while staying on disability, learning how to communicate effectively with others while I try to not have any chemical imbalances or bipolar symptoms. I see K's definition of work as "actively pursuing avoiding your reality and deceiving oneself with
false hope in order to allow headbanging as a work lifestyle, instead
of as a career choice. In other words, working so one can run around
like a chicken with its head cut off in order to make ends meet - see:
wasting my time."

He sees handouts as violating the Biblical principle of work, and something to be avoided at all cost. Thus, as soon as you can stop the bipolar tizzy fits, then you should run out and get a job as fast as you can! It matters not if you can do it or not, because you Can do it! If K says so, then you can!

Perhaps it would help to understand Bipolar that is severe as mine is...
It is a chemical imbalance. One is on meds for it. The meds is NOT a cure. It only helps somewhat keep the symptoms under control. Then there is DBT - Dialytical Behavioral Therapy. DBT teaches you skills to help you overcome your symptoms. It is NOT a cure.

Man believes that if you have not been divinely healed of "X", then you have something wrong with you that you need to change. Thus, believers can never had bipolar for life. It is just not Biblical! My Bible does not say that. I wonder, sometimes, what version of the Bible K reads.

So K admits that not everyone CAN indeed work. Well, then they should volunteer. I do volunteer - too much of my time! I have volunteered to spend money to get a fan site up for fans of a show I like, in order to give them games that entertain them, and to hopefully get new fans of the show. I also volunteered to host the archive of a former forum of a band that just happens to be a Christian band that has disbanded. This is not seen as volunteering, because I am not having physical contact with people where by I have a fool dictating silly rules over my head. It is ONLY volunteering if you have someone elses rules over your head. Rubbish! He's barking mad! That would mean that everyone who works for themselves and makes money at it is not really working! Or it means that, if you are "my" sister, and work for yourself, then you are not working. Only other people can work for themselves. Rubbish again.

How can being on disability be a greater good? And what does any of this have to do with IT?

Being on disability has helped me to make new friends, learn a new skill - Programming, and hone my skills of writing. It has also given me much humor to write about. Lastly, I have learned more about who the real me is on disability then I ever have in College, University, and so on. I've learned what I truely love and truely loathe. The internet has opened up a whole new world for me to learn in. I've discovered my true giftedness. I've also learned what it means to be bright and brilliant. Through the internet, I am learning how to communicate more effectively with others. This door has been closed for years. It is now open. Why would I want to shut it by stressing me out with work?

If I don't talk to anyone, then the supervisor complains because I am being antisocial. If I do talk to someone, the supervisor complains that I am offending people. Well, what do you expect? I do not relish discussing Men's bodyparts as something to idolize - Thank You Very Much!

Stress = 1) trying to explain why being on disability is a good thing,
2) trying to keep people from adding more to my already full plate,
3) learning what stuff belongs on my plate and what doesn't,
4) trying to get people to understand what bipolar 1 is, and what it isn't,
5) trying to get people to understand that I can NOT just Will Myself to not have the chemical imbalance and get it to go away by pure mind over matter.

Thus, wouldn't work be less stressful? I wouldn't have to keep explaining myself all the time. No, I would just have to try to not talk, lest I offend someone, all the while trying not to appear antisocial or bipolar. Good Luck!

Believe me, I really can't. I've tried making myself "get it", and be more mature for years. This was back when we thought I was chronically immature instead of someone with bipolar. It doesn't work. Sure, there is opposite to emotion, but this does not mean acting exactly how society dictates when your brain wants to scream in anger. One can't take a time out at work very easily. Oh yes, I can see it now, "Excuse me, Supervisor, I have to take an hour of work in a time out while my brain stops wanting to scream in anger."
You would get fired for that! Or, one can say, "Excuse me, I just love those new standards. I never wanted to be able to actually afford a roof over my head anyhow. Plus, I can survive on rice for life. GRIN"

My Career choice in Headbanging vs. Headbanging as a work lifestyle...
What's the difference if work and learning programming are both headbanging? At least with programming, you learn from your mistakes and get better. The result is less headbanging and seeing success! With working, you never have success. You are always wrong, always too slow, too inaccurate (because of 1 error), always negative this and negative that. Thus, work is headbanging as a work-lifestyle. The other is simply, problems needing to be solved.

Solution: Work for one's self. Why? Being my own boss, I set the rules, I set the standards, and I get to have the satisfaction of success without the negative verbal abuse one gets because the CEO lacks a challenge and wants to squeeze more productivity out of his robotic like employees.

The many doors that have opened up has given me a possibility of working for myself. I am not the greatest webmaster, but I can use this time to become better at it and learn Perl, HTML, CSS, Java Script, and other webmaster skills. I can also use this time to write better children's stories. I might even be able to make enough money writing books to earn a decent living.
But, if not, I can at least live in the satisfaction that I've made many people happy with my sites while stretching my brain and learning new things. Besides, maybe I can get the right games on my site, get the right ads, and make money that way when the time comes.

Connect Four: empty.gif vs. empty.jpg

by tpgames In reply to If laughter is good for t ...
Okay, so a friend of mine pointed out that I might want to double check that the image file really exist with the correct tag. I did. I still didn't see the error. Oh, I checked the code! Apparently, I was blind at the time. lol

Turns out the programming had references to empty.gif. I, of course, had a image file names empty.jpg. Oops! No wonder the Connect Four game did not load up properly until after one pushed start new game and added the names of the players. It took me a year to finally discover this error.

Just call me Ms. Blind :&gt
