If you need skills, hire talent

Do you have any statistics about the relationship of number of users and number of IS people needed to support them? This is for internal support of 250 users in two locations.

Magic Number

The magic numbers are:
(for each geographic location)
(ratio of users to staff)

Desktop support-nominal 75/1 maximum 120/1

Network support-nominal 250/1 maximum 500/1

Application support-nominal 100/1 maximum 150/1

These numbers have been condensed out of reports from Gartner Group, my experience, and my staffing plan.

Good luck in being able to "hire talent" to get skills. I have been leaning the other way towards skills first,talent is optional.
