IIS authenticating to NetWare

By padraig_denihan ·
We have a web application which will use IIS for authentication. All users live on NDS on Netware 5 . How can we get IIS to:

1. Always present a username/password prompt into which users can enter their Netware credentials.
2. Look to the NDS tree to authenticate the credentials i.e. not to the local accounts database

Any ideas welcome.

Depending on your NDS version, you'll need NDS Authentication Services ( on your PDC and BDCs. It used to be called NDS for NT. This will replace NT's samserv.dll with a novell *hook* that redirects security requests to NDS. But, it ain't free.

I guess you could use LDAP and a Radius server to read the tree, but don't know how to integrate that with IIS.

Does it have to use IIS?

Does your web application have to use IIS for authentication? Would it be too late to consider using the NetWare Enterprise Web Server bundled with NetWare 5.1, or the new Apache web server for NetWare? Both products are already integrated with NDS, so that particular problem would go away.
