IIS in XP?

By galahad04 ·
I have recently acquired a new computer equipped with Windows XP Home Edition. After trying to set up and install IIS, I discovered that I could not locate it. (There is no option to add it as a Windows component that I could identify, and I could not locate an add-on snap-ion from the MMC Console.) I was also unable to find any help articles on the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

Is the reason that I can't find IIS on XP Home because it only ships with XP Professional Edition? Or is it located somewhere I haven't looked yet? Also it the latest version of IIS only ships with XP Pro, could I install IIS 4 from the NT Option Pack on XP Home?

IIS in XP?

This is from Microsofts web site...

Q: I was running a personal Web server before I installed Windows XP Home Edition. I can't find it now. Where is it?

A: Windows XP Home Edition does not include Internet Information Server (IIS), and IIS cannot run on this version of Windows. To run a personal Web server, you must use WIndows XP Professional as your operating system.

Here is the link to that page.

Be sure to remove any spaces affter pasting the URL.
I don't believe IIS 4 will work. It may be worth a try, but I'm pretty sure the install will fail. Even with the NT Option Pack, it would verify which version of Windows you were running and install the matching version of IIS for it. For example, Win98 would get the Personal web server, NT 4 Workstation would get the Peer Web Server. It wont take long to try to install it though.....

Hope this helps..
