IIS is misbehaving

By jafine ·
My FTP site is not allowing anonymous logins anymore. I'm not sure when that happened but it used to allow them. I assume there is a solution to this within IIS adminstration but I don't have Help installed to browse through it. Also just recently it has not been recognizing users attempting to login through IE and therefore not allowing them access and I'm sure the usernames and passwords are correct.

In addition to all that the FTP server is constantly being bombarded by requests to login to the home directory. These are showing up in Event Viewer. What's going on with that? The latest Norton showed no viruses on the hard drive and it's clean for Code Red.

Suggestions anyone?

IIS is misbehaving

Last time I saw a home directory being bombarded by login requests, it was an attempt to hack the account. Are all the logins coming from 1 domain? 1 IP address? or where? If so, then most likely a hack attempt. If you don't have it on, turn on auditing and audit ALL login attempts.

I had the same file permission problem a few years ago and this is what resolved it for me...

For the file permissions, turn anonymous access off, restart the system, turn it back on, and restart once again. The users not being able to login through IE is most likely connected to the anon login problem you're experiencing.
