IIS Migration Issue

By Mike O ·
Hi all,

We're moving our IIS data from one server to another, and I tried doing a backup from the original server, sending the .MD0 file to the other server and copying it into the MetaBack directory. When I open IIS on the new server and go to restore it, the file shows up just fine. However, after going through the restore process, it fails. It gave three possibilities for why it could have failed, but none of them seemed to apply (near as I could tell).

Has anyone run into this before? Is there something I have to do first? I remember IIS 4 on NT had a Save As that made things a lot easier, and I thought IIS 5 on 2K would do the same thing.

Thanks,
Mike

Have you created the folder for the IIS Web site html documents first.
What is the error message, when restore fails?

We found a brief mention in a MS document that the backup/restore feature can NOT be used to migrate settings to another server. We did, however, find a migration tool that's part of the IIS resource kit. Unfortunately it doesn't do FTP. That's a PITA, but fortunately we have less than 100 domains so it will be more tedious than difficult or data-threatening.
