IIS4 / Frontpage Server Administration

by Shanghai Sam In reply to IIS4 / Frontpage Server A ...

Hi,

Well, you did not give alot of detail, but I will make afew assumptions and then we can take it from there. The first one is that you are using Windows NT since you posted to the NT tech site here. Also, assume your using FrontPage 2000.

First, you CAN NOT place your web site below the root of the default site established in IIS. Therefore DO NOT place it below C:\InetPub\wwwroot\ if you are planing to add FrontPage server extensions to your site. You must place it in a separate directory, preferably directly off the C root. Select a new name such as C:\mysite, but not the same name you used before, then:
1 - Goto the current location where you have placed your web site using windows explorer. In the right window pane, highlight the first item at the top.
2- Next, click edit on the menu bar and highlight "Select All". then return to edit and select COPY.
3 - Now, goto to your new folder (C:\Mysite), return to the edit menu and click PASTE. You should now have all of your site and sub-folders Safe in the NEW folder.
4 - Now, goto the Internet Service Manager where you first created you links to your old location, highlight your site name, goto action, then properties, click on the home directoy tab and change the path and name for the new location.
5 - Finally, you should now do a reboot, and try to install the server extensions again through the task menu in IIS.
6 - If your using Windows 2000 Pro, then you may need to delete all information in IIS, do a reboot, and start over clean.

Hope this helps, Regards
George

IIS4 / Frontpage Server Administration

Hi sohai,

Sorry about the "Transient" label they gave me when I submitted the above answer. I guess I took to long to write it, and it timed out on me. So it was recorder as transcient instead of my DS9 allias.

I'll just add another short comment to that answer.

Also, on the "Home Directoy", tab, you should make sure that you have placed a check make in the "FrontPage Web" box if you are using frontpage, and also a check mark in the "Index this site" box.

Regards
George
