illegal operation

The erroor box is part of the Windows Operating System. So, you can't just stop it from comming up. It only appears when a program, or device driver causes an error.
You need to identify the source of the error, and correct the root problem.

There should be some clues in the error message in the pop-up box.

Other clues:
What programs are running?
What devices are in the system?
Are any devices affected by the error?
Does a program exit after you close the error box?

The are links to error code lists at www.bootdisk.com
There are several trouble-shooting guides at www.aumha.org

Without more detailed information (PC configuration, OS, Software that is running, etc) any detailed answer would only be a guess.

Hold-it, I have yet to see the illegal operation box pop-up on my XP Pro system. That may be one option.
