I’m done with IT

by lumbergh77 . Updated 21 years, 10 months ago

After 20 years in high-tech, developing software, after 60 to 70-hour work weeks, I’ve finally had it. An executive told us that if we have to pray to our God to get 48 hours in a day, then do so, because we have a deadline that can not be missed. I was also told that “when it comes to people or projects, projects come first.”

I am done. Finished. Later. Out of here. I’m changing careers. Corporations want to ship IT jobs to India and China? Go ahead. Bundle them up get them over there by the boat load. I plan on taking a 40 percent cut in pay, but will probably see my kids grow up and have peace of mind. One of the best deals in town.

I wouldn’t suggest that anybody entering college start a career in this field. What a cluster**** the field has become over the past several years. You can spend years educating yourself, and getting years of experience, keeping up with new technology, and still end up obsolete. It’s happened to several friends and former co-workers of mine. It’s time for me to be proactive and get out while I’m ahead before I’m forced out.

As for corporate America, either you’re too damn dumb or too damn greedy to realize that you’re hanging yourself.
