I'm interested in learning a programing language

By netforce ·
I'm interested in learning a programing language that will benefit me the most and compliment my background as an MCSE (pending).

Since my goal is system admin/network engineer should I just focus on scripting/wsh?

Any advice appreciated.

I would advise you start learning advanced MS-Access (this could assist you in doing simple Inventory Dbase which is highly needed for Network Admin)with the GUI interface you could easily build up skills in basic programing, and then look up learning VB,C++, and others.

Meanwhile, pls note as a Network Admin one should have hands-on experience in not less then three different networking platform ( Windows, Cisco, and Linux/Unix).

as400

add to that as400, I would start with perl, It's free and there are 100's of discussion groups about it, it is the most versitile language there is. Once you're well versed in perl (which is also cross platform) then try Wscript or Jscripting for windows.

cisco is more devices than platforms, maybe look at one of the bsd os instead.
( besides, cisco's devices are linux based. )

If you are shooting for MSCE, aim toward .NET and ASP programming with ADO. You will not regret it.
