iMac Access to MS Exchange via the Web

    Locked

    by bbuechler ·

I’m not versed in Mac, and I’ll be the first
to admit it. However, has anyone out there
had any issues with an iMac communicating
with MS Exchange via it’s HTML interface (web)?

in the PC world, we’ve experienced issues
with PC’s doing this while using Netscape,
however IE seems to work fine. Is this the
    same in Mac?

It might very well be the same. If I
      remember correctly, the Exchange Web
Client uses Java to process the
      information and load various pages.
Netscape uses a different Java than
Microsoft, and if one doesn’t work, the
other might. Same on a Mac – Netscape
uses it’s own Java engine, and IE uses
Mac Runtime For Java (MRJ). If the correct
translators or applets are not available, it
won’t load correctly. We have seen this
with other Java clients and it’s a pain in
the backside, to say the least.

Your best chance of being able to fully implement any Java, Active X scripting or Javascript that is used by the MS Exchange Web Access will be to use Internet Explorer 5 for Macintosh and to upgrade to the newest version of Apple MRJ which can be found at Apple Developer MRJ Downloads. After you have applied the latest MRJ and ensure that you are using the latest Internet Explorer version available you need to make sure that in your preferences that you have turned on Javascript, Active X, and Java functionality in the web browser. This done by going to Edit>Preferences>Web Content and ticking on Enable Active X, and Enable Scripting and then restart the browser.

If that doesn’t work you may not be able to use a Macintosh for this access. Unfortunately not all Microsoft implementations are supported yet on the Mac side.
