When you setup the connection with the server in the e-mail client, you choose between POP3 and IMAP. All you have to do to know it, is to remember what you did or have a look in the settings of your e-mail client, if you forgot it.
The server uses a port for sending and a port for receiving. That are 2 ports, both for POP3 and IMAP.
To check if your email is using IMAP or POP, you can review the settings in your email client or refer to your email provider’s documentation. IMAP is typically used for email synchronization across multiple devices, while POP downloads emails to a single device. As for port numbers, POP usually uses fewer ports (110 for non-secure and 995 for secure), while IMAP uses ports 143 and 993.
