IMAP through Proxy Server

By Adriatico ·
Problem: I can't access an Exchange Server outside our network using the IMAP protocol through our MS Proxy Server 2.0... "The connection to the server has failed" Under details there is "Code: 800ccc0e"

I've got packet filtering enabled and suspect that there must be something wrong with my settings there.

This one has me REALLY stumped. Technet has nothing useful to help me that I've been able to find. What should I be looking at? I'm fairly sure I've checked it all.

Thanks in advance.

IMAP through Proxy Server

If you are able to connect to your Exchange server from outside using other protocols (ex: POP3), then your winsock proxy client is installed properly on the exchange server. Remember you must have created two WSPCFG.INI files. Make sure that the port 143 which is used by IMAP4 is listed as one of the "ServerBindTCPPorts" in the WSPCFG.INI file that is located in the directory where store.exe is located ( typically exchsrvr\bin).
You can enable dynamic port filtering on the proxy server. Makesure you are not filtering the port 143.

From the client machine, also try doing a telnet on port 143:
c> telnet mail.yourdomain.com 143

The previous post is correct, I just posted the exact answer to a user earlier with the precise locations of the wspcfg.ini files as well as the exact contents.

I suppose I should clarify a little more on this... I have my Exchange Server sitting behind it's own Proxy Server (don't ask... it just sort of worked out that way). THAT one works fine when clients outside try to connect. Not the problem here.
The OTHER proxy server (used for regular internet access), behind which I have a visiting executive, seems to be blocking Outlook Express from connecting to that same executive's Exchange Server at another site.

I have verified via a different ISP connection that this Exchange Server is definitely accepting IMAP4. Just not from behind our Proxy Server.

Packet filtering is enabled and I have included exceptions for IMAP4 (143) and secure IMAP4 (993).
