A bit of log management

by InfoSecGeek In reply to Implement a central loggi ...

I liked the article, I am am myself running a central logging server since 3 years now.
IMHO this article missed something about log management, at least a comment on that subject.

The point is you don?t want to peruse the logs manually, or in the long run you will wind up with eyesight problems. That?s why log interpreters are the best for these cases,
and if you want the data for a specific minute or timeframe, you can of course do it manually.

I have solved many network and security problems using the information stored in the logs server.

Anyway, if you setup the log server, learn how to manage the logs archiving, reporting, etc. you will improve your network security because you will be able to spot problems when they arise.
