Implement a hit counter

The Jan 6, Web Services TechMail discusses using the HttpApplicationState class as a counter. Many Web service applications use counters to track usage and gauge performance. Have you ever used the HttpApplicationState class and Application countersin your Web service applications? Tell us how it worked and what you learned.

Use Performance Counters

Using a Custom Performance counter would sound more benificial and won't use the application space. Plus you get built in graphs and reporting

Good Alternative

That's an excellent alternative as well. However it would only allow you to monitor at the page level and wouldn't allow you to collect method level metrics.
