Import mail into Outlook Express 5

By LIMiller ·
I need to import mail from an old PC running Outlook Express 5 (Win9 to a new PC also running Outlook Express 5 (ME). I have copied the .dbx files from the old PC to the new one. I try to import and get a message about no messages can be found in this folder ... I am using the main identity. What's wrong?????????????

Export Messages to Outlook 98/2000 if u can. Enter Outlook and then export them as a *pst or *.dbx file back to Outlook Express , I know this works as I have done it. It`s not the quickest but it works . Hope it helps

This works! I just did it. Go to the following link and read the solution.

http://chattanooga.net/~scochran/backup.htm

The following will also work:
If the network connection can't be made (even ethernet to ethernet), I
would imagine PCAnywhere or Laplink would be the best route to take.
What I would also do, since this is a new setup, is to export the Identities
key from the registry on the desktop if running Win9x or WinMe (Win2K
requires a slight edit of the reg file) , then import it into the laptop.
Then all you have to do is copy the current folder setup to the laptop and
it's as if they've always been on the laptop. Newsgroups and all.

Export the mail and news accounts as well. I keep them handy when setting upa new beta setup and as a backup in general.

Hi !
For Importing the mails in Outlook Express, instead of Copying all the .dbx files, if you Copy the whole folder containing the .dbx and other files which will be in the folder Outlook Express on your Computer.
Just copy it and then Copy it onyour New Computer.

Now after this, in the new PC , in the Outlook Express Menu choose, Import and Export from File Menu and then Outlook Express mail and then choose according if it asks for some thing else.

When it asks for Selecting the files, then at that time, Browse and then instead of selecting the Files separately, just select the Folder that you have copied and then all your mails will be imported.

This had worked fine for me.

Hope it will also work for you.

Best of Luck,

Guru
