Import MS Access XP data into Excel

I have a table in Access who’s data does not change. When we enter a ‘company number’ it auto-populates the name of the company – in access.

We also have an Excel sheet where we will enter the same Company # – is it possible to auto-populate that info into the company name in Excel?

To make it clearer: What I have now is an excel sheet where I imported a database table – it has 2 columns . One has a # and the other has the company name.

What I want is to have a place where I can enter the company number – and in the 2nd column it will auto-populate the corresponding # from the table I imported.

Hope this is clear – it is hard to explain exactly what I am wanting.

      Thanks!

I believe you are lookign for a Pivot table. A free helper is available here:

Actually, what solved it was a VLOOKUP. I had done that, but there is a value at the end that I did not set to False – I don’t quite understand what setting that to false accomplished technically, but it fixed it. Thanks for the advice though.

i believe what you are seeking is an update query. first you import the excel into a table, then use the query wizard to experiment with ‘merging’ the two if i follow you. hint, for test, make new table before boldly updating the main table…i think you will find it fairly intuitive and easy to accomplish. let us know i find these things easier to get help on if i tell folks the end result i am looking for…
