    IMS oubound queue stuck?

    Locked

We run exchange server 5.5 sp4 on NT server sp6a. I ran the fix for the code red worm and rebooted yesterday. after sometime we noticed that we weren’t sending/recieving messages out of the office. Turns out the internet mail service didn’t start. No problem, I started that, and now we are able to send and receive fine. The problem is I have about 30 messages stuck in the outbound queue that were sent from us during the time that the IMS service was off. How can I send these on their way? Thanks!

You state that you can send and receive messages now, so I assume that you’ve sent mail to an outside account and confirmed that it arrived. If that is so and mail really is going out OK, the mail stuck in the queue may simply be to servers that aredown or to mailboxes that are refusing mail for some reason. Did you have any mail in the queue before the server went down? When you first start up the service, it will try to send to everything in the queue. You can Retry to send messages in the queue, then take a look at the details of the messages stuck in the queue and you’re likely to get some ideas as to why they’re stuck there.
