In Win95 Windows Explorer is very slow

By lathe ·
Windows explorer is very slow while I try to access folders and files
Few points I noticed:
1) It is slow only when the folder is with more data, if the folder contains few bytes it is fast. The access speed is not normal,
2) When I click the start button first time it come up after few seconds, this speed also is not normal, second or third time it is fast.

Thanks

The reason I guess is the limited memory. Or virus? Check virus(To online check: http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall) and run defrag.

Good luck!

You have a slow disk access. As you have noticed, the second time is a little faster. That's because the info that Windows needs is still in its cache. Delete all temporary files including the Internet Temporary Files in Windows. Then run Defrag andScandisk. Then restart your PC.

Enjoy!

To check if you have a virus click on start, point to programs, and clcik on MS-DOS prompt.
Type chkdsk and press enter.
Total bytes memory should equal 655,360.
If the amount is around 5k smaller than 655,360 then there is a good possibility of a virus existing.

Besides, make sure you have adequate free space.
Clean-up the drive by removing temp files, empty the recycle bin, and run 'deltree tempor~1' at the MS-DOS prompt to delete temporary internet files and create a new temporary Internet files folder in case of some corruption with the original folder.
If you suspect a corrupt swap file, then do a find for win386.swp while in windows to see where the file is located, boot the system to MS-DOS mode, goto the proper directory, delete the win386.swp file, and restart the system.
