Inadvertent deletion of MS Access data

By efray01 ·
While working in an Access database, I had made some extensive changes to it and tried to save a table as a different file (unsuccessfully, it appears). I had also copied a large portion of the data to the clipboard. When I closed Access I was askedif I wanted to save what was in the clipboard file. I said no before I really thought about it. Now the file (table) has only the new information in it. Is there any way that I can retrieve the data that was previously there - and if so how?

Unfortunately I do not believe you can get the data back. One thing about access db's is once you make a change to a table whether it be an add or delete once it is confirmed you usually cannot get it back. Do you have a backup copy maybe somewhere that would have the deleted data (some of it anyway) that you could restore from? Otherwise I really believe you are dead in the water. Next time before making changes always make a backup copy of the access db especially if you are making major changes to the tables. Believe me I've had it happen before and had to go through a painstaking process of recovering the data the hard way. I know this not the answer you want to here and maybe someone else does have a solution that I'm not aware of and if so good luck to you.

Chris

I do not believe so, you might want to check the directory for a backup of the file.

Maybe you could try "lost and found" by Powerquest. Its expensive but can be downloaded off the internet. It has worked wonders for me in the past.
