Inbox problems

By BradleyMGX ·
Recently I upgraded our NT Server to Windows 2000 Advanced Server. At the same time I installed SP3 for our Exchange 5.5.
The following problems arose:
1 - A few users Inbox had an "Unable to display folder" error. I deleted these mailboxes and then restored them from backup. This resolved this error - Anyone know why?
2 - A few Contact Public Folders display the "UtDF" error if they are sorted by Company. - Unresolved
3 - One users cannot delete mail from his Inbox or cannot open emails with attachments, these emails also have an empty preview pane. If a copy of the Inbox is made then these emails can be viewed fine.

Thanks for all Input

Inbox problems

As far as one is concerned I'd say it was a slight corruption of the private information store during upgrade.

I have no idea about 2!

And three kind of suggests permissions problems on the mailbox. By default the primary account has user privelidges, but if these have changed it could cause problems. The permissions page is not displayed by default in Exchange Administrator, it is enabled in Tools | Options, just tick the box in there to display the permissions dialogue, it will then appear under mailbox properties.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the input, but my problem is still unresolved. I checked PRIV.EDB integrity before and after upgrade and all was fine.
For three the user set up rules to route all incoming emails to a different folder until the problem could be resolved. The rules didn't work, but the problem vanished.
Thanks for the help though.

The first item you mention may be a bug in SP3, not sure. But I have found that by making another user the primary account and then switching it back it resolves it. Pointers between mailbox and user account may have become corrupted somehow.

Iwould run eseutil against your public information store (after hours) and have it rebuild it.

Have you run eseutil against the private information store yet? Or you could copy all this inbox to a pst, run inbox repair utility against it and thencopy back up to his inbox.

Thanks for your help. Our company has just gone through a merger, they were running NT4, so I built new Exchange servers on NT and migrated all the mailboxes over.
