Incorrect Memory Size Reported in NT 4

By e.wong ·
I need to make Windows NT 4.0 think more RAM is available than the BIOS says there is. I have 128 MB onboard and the BIOS sees all of it, but apparently the BIOS tells NT there is only 64 MB. Microsoft Knowledge Base article #154718, "Incorrect Memory Size Reported in Windows NT 4.0," suggests upgrading the BIOS, but that resolution path is unavailable. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Incorrect Memory Size Reported in NT 4

Specifying /maxmem in boot.ini can limit the amount of memory used by NT, but that is not the case here.

As far as I know, the BIOS has not allocated the "missing" 64 MB to any system functions or boards (e.g., video).

Double check the BIOS setting for OS/2 support.

If this is set, the BIOS will only report 64MB to the operating system.

The BIOS has no setting for support of any specific operating system.

Just looked at a BIOS screen today.
(been awhile since I had to go there)

On this motherboard the option was for handling memory over 64MB, the options were OS/2 or non OS/2

In advanced bios features, the specific wording was
OS select for DRAM>64MB

I have yet to see a BIOS setup that does not have an option for OS/2 / RAM above 64MB.
