Index Server and SQL 7 specific

By patrick ·
I am working on a project for a client in the construction industry, and have a small problem. I need to know if, using SQL Server 7, I can implement index server to do full text indexing on a field in the database containing microsoft word or excel documents. No one seems to know the answer, and I have had one or two people say that it can be done, but no one knows how to do it. Please help, our client is getting antsy!

To do indexing within the Server you can use the 'Full-Text Indexing Wizard' if the data is stored as text, otherwise you can use the Index Server for external files by adding a lonked server and using the OLE DB provider, I suggest that you look atthe following papers;

Microsoft Servers - Full Text Search -
http://www.microsoft.com/SQL/productinfo/fulltext.htm

Microsoft Servers - Textual Searches on File Data White Paper - SQL Server 7.0
http://www.microsoft.com/SQL/techinfo/P72014.htm
http://www.microsoft.com/SQL/techinfo/filedata.htm

Regards,

Andrew.
