Industry Projections

One of the things I find most annoying here and on other sites is the way the various pundits like to tell us what effect some industry move will have on the industry. I was reading yet another article of this sort and it occurred to me that sites should rate their contributors on the accuracy of these predictions.

Then we, the humble reader, would have some way of determining who's articles are worth the read, and who's are likely to be complete hogwash.

So, would the bloggers and other commentators like to be part of this sort of scheme? Seems pretty reasonable to me. After all, it could also help them improve their own forecasting accuracy.

Good idea;

can you get someone to track Gartner? This place is small potatoes compared to their quarterly crystal ball gazings.

Ten years back

by JamesRL In reply to Industry Projections

I was at a company, that subscribed to Gartner and I was the guy to go to sinde the company who would frame the questions we would pose to their analysts.

They got a number of things right, but also a number of things wrong. They thought back then (1999/2000/2001) that the PC would be pretty much dead by now because we would be using terminal servers/citrix servers and very light clients or even smartphones.

It was the Gartner analysts who suggested I hang out here....blame them.
