Blog import

by debuggist Staff In reply to Infinity + 1

Did you notice this feature when you started your blog? If you want to jumpstart your TR blog with some content from somewhere else, then you can supply the feed in Blog Settings.

The cool thing is you can comment on each item in that feed. And the site will poll for updates throughout the day.

You shouldn't see this problem on the site anymore. A patch was applied yesterday that should fix it.

New blog features

by debuggist Staff In reply to Infinity + 1

Some new blog features were deployed yesterday afternoon.<br />
<br />
As I'm typing this, I'm able to use an improved editor: it facilitates
text formatting, hyperlinking and image insertion in blog posts.<br />
<br />
Also, you can edit or delete your own posts. <strong>Woohoo!</strong><br />

Links, Blog Door, Community Navigation

by debuggist Staff In reply to Infinity + 1

Several new features came out today for you:<br />
<br />
<ol>
<li><strong>Links</strong> - this allows you to bookmark any URL, tag
it and share it with others at TechRepublic. It's a centralized
location for your bookmarks. This can be especially handy if you're not
always at the same workstation throughout the day.</li>
<li><a href="http://techrepublic.com.com/5258-6257-0.html">Blog Door</a> - this lets you see the most recent blog postings as well as those postings from your contacts. It (along with a link to the <a href="http://techrepublic.com.com/5227-6257-0.html">People</a> page) are in the blue nav bar below the search box.</li>
<li><strong>Community Navigation</strong> - we've added links at the top of pages to
make it easier to get to your personalized community features like
discussions, blogs and links.</li>
</ol>
Please let us know what you think of these features. Enjoy!<br />

Tag results page

by debuggist Staff In reply to Infinity + 1

TechRepublic now has a tag results page that will show you everything
associated with that tag according to what you clicked on. For
instance, if you clicked on a tag for a discussion post, you would then
go to a tabbed page showing all discussions with that same tag. Other
tabs on that page would allow you see to see people, blogs or links
with that tag.<br />
<br />
Give it it a <a href="http://techrepublic.com.com/5260-1-0.html?query=firefox">try</a> and let us know how you like it.<br />

Home IT

by debuggist Staff In reply to Infinity + 1

With the ever-growing presence of technology in the home, many
households depend on one of the kids to handle setup and maintenance of
computers, routers and other tech equipment.<br />
<br />
Is there a website(s) out there that you use when you have questions
about IT in your home? It seems like a lot of sites would be geared
toward the enterprise business IT professionals. Is there something out
there for those who need answers for their IT questions at home? Is
there a need for this kind of resource?<br />

Home IT

by Jaqui In reply to Home IT

well, on cprogramming.com's forums they have a couple of non programming forums, including one for tech support.<br />
on the graphics community sites I read, half have technical support forums for people to get help with thier it problems.<br />
( usually recommendations for system upgrades with specific applications in mind is all that's asked there. )<br />
the other half of the graphics sites have at least one general
discussion area where the tech questions get posted..and answered, even
though they don't have a specific forum for tech support.<br />
<br />
while the need is there for home users, the general community sites seem to fill it.<br />
I'm sure you know how difficult it is to get something that will draw
people for a non professional community site, which is where a lot of
people go for thier tech support. ( other than calling isp to learn how
to install new printer. )<br />

Home IT

by illilli In reply to Home IT

<p>It seems funny that I am reading this Blog post considering that it is a little older and funnier that I am adding some comments, but I don' t think enough people make the right kind of comments or enough of them.</p>
<p>I have lots of home IT questions and all the people I know ask as the family IT expert their questions to answer.  I never use just one site, but just do a Google search.  There was an article in PC Magazine that discussed how Search Engines are replacing people's need to have a list of links since no one place seems to be able to offer every thing you could possibly want.  That's probably relevent to this Blog entry.</p>
<p>I'd like to see you blog more often and talk about Tech Republic issues.  There are many things I love about TR and a few things I don't love all that much, like the lack of FAQs.  I have not had some of my questions about TR answered successfully.  </p>
<p>Well, enough of me just rambling on incoherently in your blog.  </p>

Feel free to private message or comment in my blog about issues with or questions about TechRepublic.<br />
<br />
As for FAQs, are you looking for something like our <a href="http://techrepublic.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/techrepublic.cfg/php/enduser/std_alp.php">Knowledge Base</a> or <a href="http://techrepublic.com.com/1200-26-5124160.html">How Do I</a> sets of instructions?<br />
<br />
Thanks for posting,<br />
