Influence of basic IT qualifications

I am undergoing the following project/white paper for my Certificate in Education course:

“An investigation into the influence on employers of applicants’ IT qualifications with particular reference to CLAIT: A small-scale study of how IT qualifications are viewed by employers”

I am putting together a questionnaire which will be emailed/posted to a cross section of recruitment agencies in the UK.

This is a legitimate project which I hope will give an indication as to whether the vocational courses I teach are actually getting people interviews for jobs.

I feel that many employers do not fully appreciate the value of some job candidates who posses basic IT qualifications (i.e. Word processing, spreadsheets etc.).

I would appreciate some input on the type of questions I should pose to recruitment agencies to get the best value out of the project.

I am hoping to put together sufficient questions to make the project worthwhile but not too many that would put people off.

A typical question should be:

Rate the importance employers attach to basic IT skills (per your description) for the following job positions:
Junior Administrative; Middle Management; Senior Management, etc..
You can ask the same question for a different category description such as:
Clerical; Secretarial; Administrative; Technical Production.
Or:
Marketing; Accounting, etc…
Each item in each category should be rated to show relative importance.

I know you are doing this as part of a certificate, but this topic and many surveys are already in existance if you look in academic databases. I read many studies to this point while writing my Literature Review for my dissertation. I suggest you check google scholar on your key terms. You may even find a survey tool already available with lots of questions.
