Informix apps from HP-UX to Sun Solaris

By murugan_t ·
Any of you have migrated Informix applications and database from HP-UX 32 bit to Sun Solaris 64 bit system.
Informix applications from HP-UX to Sun Solaris should not have any problem, I assume.

I haven't personally done Informix, but I've done Sybase and one of our DBA team members recalls going from HP-UX to Solaris with Informix but that was 64 bit to 64 bit. There are two separate issues here, (1) HP-UX to Solaris and (2) 32 bit to 64 bit.

For the most part Unix is Unix. The only thing that is different as far as the database is concerned is the location of key system files like boot scripts. As far as 32 bit or 64 bit, as long as the application understands 64 bit and is installed for 64 bit (if that is an actual install option) there are no concerns.

Basically, this migration should be easy and should not have any problems. There is nothing in the DB files that cares about either. So once you copy your DB files to the Solaris server you should be able to install your fresh rev of Informix, point it to the DB files and pick up where you left off on HP.

Good luck.
