Infrared Compatability

By the_westons55 ·
I have a new Nokia 3200 mobile. I wish to transfer data between my mobile and my HP laptop using the infrared port. The laptop recognises the mobile but when i go to send any info between the mobile and laptop or vice versa nothing happens. Any ideas?

I had the same phone for aa while. Go to the Nokia USA website and download the software for file transfer and address book sync. I think it's called Nokia PC Suite, there is other software available too.

One thing often advertised yet now is Web access via the IR port as a modem with your phone dialling to a dial up ISP connection.

I had a tech remove the blocked "Channel select dialing" feature on my 3360 once because it was restricted by Nokia when they ship the phones to the providers. Other than that, it is disabled so your mobile provider can sell you web access (quite a rip off really, it is faster and free using the IR modem).
If you want to enable Infra Red web access to a standard dial up account, Nokia in Montreal Canada will remove the block for $240.00.

Other than that the IR connection just a way to synch your address book and the odd text file. (I was still pretty excited when I linked my cell phone to my laptop and dialed into my email the first time though!). I opted for a different phone this time because I got so pissed off at my providers who had NO idea at all how thier phones worked. I ended up calling Nokia USA for the right answers.
