Infrared (IR) Jamming

By kchoward ·
I'm looking for information on how to interfere with IR data communications from PDAs to Computers or visa-versa. Might anyone have any insight on this topic?

Hate to say it but since IR is a line of sight type thing, even with the bouncing of the IR beam off glass and such, How to interfere with it is to cover the IR port on the computer. I know this sounds like a stupid answer to your question but that really is all there is to it. Or to cast the area in other IR rays.

Another way to jam a legitimate IR connection would be to flood it with illegitimate IR data. You could probably rig a standard remote control to point at an IR port and keep it from functioning properly.

Any Ir LED hooked up to a Multivibrator, Chopper, or Oscillator operating above the transmission rate will cause severe interference.
It does not have to be white noise.
This would be extremly cheap.
Check any electronics shop, or Radio Shack.
