Infrared (IR) Jamming

By kchoward ·
I'm looking for information on how to interfere with IR data communications from PDAs to Computers or visa-versa. Might anyone have any insight on this topic?

Hate to say it but since IR is a line of sight type thing, even with the bouncing of the IR beam off glass and such, How to interfere with it is to cover the IR port on the computer. I know this sounds like a stupid answer to your question but that really is all there is to it. Or to cast the area in other IR rays.

Interesting point. What methods could be employed to cast the area in other IR rays. This could in essence fill the "room" or specific location with interfering white noise. Am I correct? If so, again, what methods could be used to accomplish successful denial of IR data transmission?

Any Ir LED hooked up to a Multivibrator, Chopper, or Oscillator operating above the transmission rate will cause severe interference.
It does not have to be white noise.
