Inherited a few desktops with no hard drives can I recover the original os?

By slickh2o ·
I have received a few desktops from a company that has gone out of business and they have destroyed their hard drives for each comp for security reasons. I wanted to know if i can somehow use the xp id numbers on each desktops sticker to reinstall xp if I had a disk, since each comp will need a new hard drive. Otherwise I am going to install something else on each but I would like to XP if I can do that legally.

Let me know if this doesn't make sense and I will clarify.

Thank you.

You'd order the disk from the vendor.

If they are all exactly the same, you may only need to get the one disk. 20-40 bucks is what I've seen charged for the replacement disks.

If the Desktops have COA's on them

Then you can use that Product Key to reinstall the OS.

If they are White Boxes you'll need a M$ Branded Install Disc but if they are System Makers Units you can get a Recovery Disc from that Maker. As stated above if they are all the same you will only need the 1 Recovery Disc but if they are different Brands you'll need a Recovery Disc for each Brand.
