Input from IT Managers needed

Dear IT Professionals:

I’m Rachel Day, a PhD candidate at University of South Florida’s Industrial and Organizational psychology program. I am conducting research for my doctoral dissertation on career development issues facing workers today. I am looking for working individuals to volunteer to participate in this research. Obtaining a large sample of individuals from different occupational backgrounds is exceptionally important to me. I am making a concerted effort to include IT professionals in the research since they play such a crucial role in organizations and their career paths are unique and worthy of study. I would be eternally grateful if you decide to participate!

Participation consists of completing a 10 minute online survey. The only requirement for participation is that you are currently working at least 30 hours per week. If you are ineligible to complete the survey, would you please pass this information along to someone you know who is employed full time?

All responses will remain anonymous and confidential. The survey is secure and uses SSL encryption for your protection. The method of data collection that I am using does NOT permit me access to your email address or any other personal or identifying information.

When you have completed filling out this brief survey, you will be asked to email one of your coworkers or peers. To increase the study’s validity, it is important to get a second perspective on some of the measures. Your co-worker will simply be asked to answer a couple of harmless questions about you. This will take them no longer than 1 minute. I know this may seem like a lot to ask of you, but this step is crucial to the success of my dissertation research. I appreciate your support immensely!

Here is some background information about my study:
There has been a great deal of research recently that suggests that individuals who are able to stay marketable are more likely to succeed and survive in today’s volatile job market. Studies show that highly marketability individuals fare better in times of job uncertainly. However, research uncovering the specific factors that contribute to an individual’s marketability is severely lacking. It would be very beneficial for workers to understand what proactive steps they can take to stay employable, competitive and value added during this time of job instability. These professional development matters are especially relevant in the IT field today. My research explores of these critical issues.

If you would like more information about the study or a summary of the study’s results, please contact me via the email address found on the web-survey. Again, your participation is greatly appreciated!

Rachel
