By sparky588 ·
I have a dell inpiron 1150 that locks up when you plug in the ac adaptor. it runs okay on the battery. I was told it was the motherboard. I bought a new one but the same thing keeps happening. Before i keep buying parts dose anyone have an idea?

Is the AC adapter a genuine part made specifically for that model.

Who told you it was the M'Board

And how did they Diagnose this fault?

Was the Mains Adapter ever tested in any manner what so ever?

If the Mains Adapter is faulty it's possible that you have toasted the new M'Board at the very least a Voltage Check should eb performed on the Plug that goes into the NB. This just requires a Digital Volt Meter set to the correct Range to read the specified output voltage of the Mains Adapter. This is specified on the Adapter and you also need to check the Polarity of the plug. This is also done with the Digital Volt Meter.

To be quite honest the problem could be anywhere and you need to perform tests to see what requires Repairing/Replacing.
