Inspiron5100/Radeon7500 -only 1024x768!

By an_it_guy ·
Hi All,
A recently purchased Inspiron5100 with 16MB ATi Mobility Radeon 7500 - the maximum Display Resolution allowed is only 1024x768!
I have an external 17" LCD monitor with which i use the notebook, and hence want to increase the resolution tomaybe upto 1280x1024!
The system is preloaded with WinXP-Pro.

Any help would be highly appreciated! Thanks.

Hi,
Both the display adapter and monitors have there own maximum resolutions they will support. Although, it is usually the display that is the limiting factor. Have you already tried changing the diplay settings while using the 17" monitor. Once you have introduced the monitor to WinXP and the proper hardware drivers are loading, check to see if you have ATI control panel. If so, you can make all the device, diplay changes through its interface. It will even help you troublshoot. If it isnt installed, current Catalyst drivers and control panel software can be obtained from http://www.ati.com .

I have tried most of the things you have said above! After connecting the 17"LCD monitor, however, the XP din't install the drivers on its own; will try checking the ATI control Panel and get back soon. Thanks for your time.

yes, make sure the lcd monitor driver is installed...do you get different resolutions if you pick different refresh rates or color depth?
