Install HP External cd-writer plus 7200e

by sbhuck . Updated 22 years, 11 months ago

I have a HP External CD-Write Plus 7200e. I have bought the installation discs, but when they are installed, the computer does not recognize that the drive exist. It is connected the parallel port LPT1 where my printer was original connected.
The port still has the information that the device in port LPT1 is my printer.
Under the System Properties, when you go down to the ports and coms, and idetify it and under LPT1 the printer is allocated the following resources:
Input/Output: 0378 – 037F
input/output: 0778 – 077B
Interrupt request: 07
Direct memory access: 03
Under that is “conflicting device list” and no conflicts are found.
If all the resources for this port are still setup to let printer work isn’t it safe to say thatthis port will never recognize mt External CD-writer plus 7200e, because as far as it is concerned the printer is still there?
HP support has had me jumping through hoops four 2 weeks, and can not answer this question. They have had me ibstall and uninstall the softwae at least 10 time or more, and had me checking BIOS which is set the way they want it. The resule is a item in my tray which has a red circle on it and a redline through the circle. It reads: “Adaptec DirectCD Wizard, No supported CD-R/CD-RW drive”.
You people have often proved much more useful in this time of problem, and I should have come here first, but I wanted to give HP support a chance, since I do have the Installation discs, which were going to make installing the HP External CD-Writer plus 7200e a breeze, but it did not.
Please tell me how would approach solvin this problem
Thanks
Wilbur Huck
