Install New Hardware Prompt

I just purchased a new PCI parallel port for a 98 machine. I installed the card and then hook up the printer, ran all the software and all the good stuff. Every time that I restart the computer, it pops up the box to install the printer. The software is installed and there are two printers on the same computer. Any suggestions to stop this.

You may have gotten the process ‘wrong’ / ‘backwards’ or ‘out of sync’.

After installing the new parallel port card you needed to boot and let Win recognize and configure it new hardware (IRQ and all that). Then install the printer and connect to the new port. I think if you installed the New Printer software before doing the card setup, the printer probably isn’t connected to the new card.

If you have an icon in START, SETTINGS, PRINTER for the new one, Right Click, Properties and seewhat it is connected to for a device. Might check the Device Manager and see what it says about the new printer card (not sure about where/how, don’t do Win 98 a lot).

Is it saying printer or printer port?
