Install Office 97 on Win 2000 computer

By agavar ·
I have many problems with Office 97 on Win 2K Pro computers after joining a new Windows 2000 domain server.
I ask for a good practice to use when installing MS Office 97 on a new computer so I will have no problems after. Is it better to install ita the user administrator ou as a user with administrative rights ? In the past, I was installing it as a user with administrative rights and I had no problems. But our new technicians install it as the user administrator and we have many problems. What is the better way to install it ?

Install as Administrator. Users may have to be set up as Power Users.
There are a couple of gliches that can be fixed.

I've done this as follows:

1. Install Windows 2000
2. Instal Windows 2000 SP2
3. Install Office 97 as administrator
4. Install Office 97 SP1

See the microsoft support/download site for service packs.

In the past I've always added the user to the local admins, installed any software they need, configured it then removed them from the local admin group. With Office 97 this gave minimal problems (if there were none you'd think something was wrong!) but moving to Office 2000 gave some problems with the install on first use settings.

I install it as administrator and it works fine. The only problem I had, was when the user tried to use it and this may be your problem. I don't have any users with administrative rights. I had them set up as plan users. This caused the problem andthe could not do everything they needed to do, spell check, etc. I switched them to a power user and it fixed the problems.

I also would check to make sure that it installed in the right directory. Mine is - C:\documents and Settings\All Users.WINNT.

I hope this helps.

I give the user local admin rights.
Have him install it.
Remove the admin rights
It works perfect.
