Install win98

On a friend’s computer for an unknown reason the Win95 registry disappeared. I decided to install Win98. After PnP and non PnP devices detection :
– the computer reboots
– the splash screen appears
– a strange and quite audible CLICK is produced- the splash screen freezes and so the computer
After 3 attempts I went to bed (2 AM) !!
Any ideas are welcome
