Install Windows 7

By firefox5000 ·

I have a pc with 2 harddrives.
One contains XP and the other windows Vista. Now I have purchased windows 7.
Should I uppgrade from vista to 7 or just erase the harddrive where Vista is and install windows 7 as a full installation? This shouldnt affect XP since since it is installed on the masterboot harddrive. Which way is best?

Do you have an upgrade version, or a full version?
If you have a full version, then you should do a new clean install.
I know that there are a lot of problems with upgrades from Vista to 7.
How to do it on a dual boot system depends on the system.

doesn't matter

even if you have the upgrade you can do a full install.

Do a full install from your upgrade Disc, do not enter the Key when asked.

restart and boot from disc again, this time click upgrade, enter your win 7 key this time.

full install

if your current Vista setup has any problem, they will be magnified if you do an upgrade.

that's why most people recommend you do a full install. a little bit more work now, a lot less down the line.

So if I do an full install and erase vista during the process it will not affect the harddrive where XP is installed. That is no boot problems will occure?
