Install windows xp on vaio VGN-NR350FE

By mick28mx ·
Hello all,
I recently purchased a laptop vaio VGN-NR350FE, and I need to downgrade to windows xp.
Unfortunately, when I insert the windows xp disc, a message says: No hard drive found appear.

I?m suspecting that is caused to the 250 gb sata hard drive. I?m trying to install from windows xp sp2.

Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance.

You need the sata drivers first, if possible put onto a floppy.

You can get a external floppy drive, this will be noted as drive "A or B", depending on the set up. You will need to download the sata drivers from the computer makers website and copy them onto the floppy disk.
Then you need to clean your hard drive with this:
Once you have all of your drivers, sound, sata, etc, then load on the Killdisk cd and format your hdd, when done load on your Windows XP. when it asks "F6 for third party drivers" whack in the floppy and press "enter", now Windows will copy the data from the floppy disk.

Please post back if you have any more problems or questions.

Well it's a bit more difficult than just having the SATA Drivers

You need a way to actually load them and by Default the XP installer wants these on a Floppy Disc copied to the Root.

As the Sony Vaio doesn't have a floppy drive you will not be able to load the SATA Driver.

What you need to do here is make a Slipstreamed Install Disc by either following the directions here

Or download the article here

Or use a Software application like nLite to build your own Slipstreamed Install Disc

Just make sure to read the Directions for use of nLite if you chose to use it here

But including the SATA Driver for XP and your Hardware isn't the biggest problem in Upgrading to XP. You need to make certain that there are XP Drivers available for all of your hardware or it will not work at all. Well the bits that do not have XP Drivers will not work. So you first need to locate all of the XP Drivers for your Hardware before you start to proceed with the Upgrades to XP from Vista.

If you are unable to find all of the XP Drivers you will be unable to successfully Upgrade to XP and you'll need to continue using Vista or if you find this impossible you'll need to move to a Non Windows OS to use this Vaio.
