Install XP from floppies?

By Mr. Origami ·
My CD drive is not bootable. I have no other OS installed (so can't upgrade). Don't WANT to install another OS and then upgrade. I want a clean install of XP. How do I create a set of install floppies for XP?

You'll need four blank diskettes. Go to a Win2K or XP machine and insert your xp disk into the cd-rom. Open up a command prompt and go to the bootdisk directory on your cd and run makeboot.exe This might even work on a Win9x machine.

CD doesn't have a BOOTDISK directory. Just has the following: docs, i386, support, valueadd. A search of the CD for MAKEBOOT returns no results. Are images of the floppies posted anywhere?

If your hard drive is already partitioned and you have a dos boot disk with cd drivers, boot your computer with the disk in the A: drive and after booting to the command prompt (a:) change directories to your cd drive (you should have been told which drive it was) and type:
CD (enter)
Setup.exe (enter)
(where D is your cdrom drive)

A windows 95/98/ME boot should work.

Hope this helps.
