If you can work with RIS (Remote Install Services) limitations and do have W2K Server, of which it is part, that would be great. If you don't have NIC's with PXE you can always use DOS boot floppies and then start the RIS process.

An alternative would be cloning, but there are no free/MS-bundled tools for this. (SysPrep is an essential MS tool which has a support role in the cloning, but does not do the main job....).

I am assuming that u have all 40 machine with
identical hardware & PXE comliant NIC,
in this case u can go for RIS (remote Installation), First install the server software
& enable the RIS & configure DHCP.
In case all the PC's are not same, then better
go for unattended installation. Exctract the
SETUPMGR from the win2k cd, and generate the
unattend.txt file, copy it on the floppy
and rename it to winnt.sif, run from command
prompt with /u /s switch. i.e. /u is file name and
location of winnt.sif, /s is source for i386 folder.
Hope this will help you.
