Installation and Partitioning

By M*Lenium ·
I have 2 hard drives in my computer. I have Windows 2000 Professional installed on the primary master and Windows 98 installed on the primary slave. I have created a second partition on the primary slave which I intend to install Windows 2000 Professional on. (The reason I want a second Win 2K installation is that I am studying for MCSE certification, and would like a separate installation that I can experiment and play about with.) I switch between Win 2K and Win 98 by selecting which hard drive I want to boot from in the BIOS (i.e. not using boot.ini) If I select the primary slave as the boot device in the BIOS, then install Windows 2000, where will the system partion be for this new installation? Will it be on the first or second drive?Hope this makes sense.

Yes boot from the w98 drive and install your second w2k on the same drive - the one with w98 then when you boot from that drive you will be given the option to choose which os using boot.ini
good luck on your certs

during installation of your second w2k you will have to disable the drive with the 1st version of w2k on it or you will have trouble with the installation because the second installation will find it and cause problems..
