Installation hangs at file copy

By edrox ·
Hi,

I am attempting to build an unattended setup of Windows XP.
When I boot with a DOS flop, and give the command d:\i386\winnt /s:d:\i386 /u:a:\unattend.txt
It then starts, then goes to the filecopy of the setup files (ntloader, txtsetup.sif, etc) but when it should start copying the source and display the yellow statusbar, it just stands, doesn't show the bar or anything, the message is standard: Please wait while files are copied to
your hard disk.

No cdrom or harddisk activity at all.

Has anyone seen this, or does anyone know the fix?

Thanks in advance,

Eduard

Installation hangs at file copy

by quintar51 In reply to Installation hangs at fil ...

If it's possible, I would try installing using the same CD on another machine and see if it stops at the same stage. I don't think it's related to the fact that it's unattended install. Try using it on another machine and if it works fine, try it with another CD Drive using the first machine.

good luck,

Thanks for the answer, the CD is fine and so is the CDROM drive, XP hangs for a night at the file copy if smartdrv is not loaded. If smartdrv is loaded, it hangs only 3 minutes.

Hi,
I don't know whether or this would cause the error that you are seeing, and assuming the cd is good, the first part of your unattend file - the [data] section - should only be used when performing an unattended install via a boot from the win2k cd.

msdosinitiated=0
in particular tells the setup that this install was NOT started from a dos session, which if you are booting from a floppy it is. Try removing the data section and see what happens.
